Auckland Marathon
About the event
The Auckland Marathon is one of New Zealand's most iconic running events, bringing together runners of all ages and abilities for a memorable day through the heart of Auckland. First held in 1992, the event has grown into one of the country's largest running festivals and will celebrate its 35th edition in 2026.
Known by many as the Runaway Auckland Marathon or Run The City, the event is famous for its unique course across the Auckland Harbour Bridge. As the sun rises over the Waitematā Harbour, participants enjoy one of the few opportunities each year to run across the bridge while taking in panoramic views of the city skyline and waterfront.
Whether you're aiming for a personal best, completing your first event, or simply enjoying the atmosphere with friends and family, there's a distance to suit every goal. Participants can choose from the full marathon, half marathon, 11km, or shorter event options, making it an inclusive day for experienced runners, walkers, and first-time participants alike.
With thousands of participants, enthusiastic spectators, and a vibrant finish line celebration on Auckland's waterfront, the Auckland Marathon has become a highlight of New Zealand's running calendar. It is an event that showcases the city's energy while bringing the community together to celebrate movement, achievement, and the joy of running.
