About the event
The Melbourne Marathon Festival is one of Australia's premier running events, welcoming tens of thousands of participants to the streets of Melbourne each year. First held in 1978, the festival has grown into one of the country's most iconic running weekends, attracting everyone from elite athletes to first-time runners and families.
One of the event's defining moments is the unforgettable finish inside the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). After running through Melbourne's streets and passing many of the city's most recognisable landmarks, participants cross the finish line on the famous turf of one of the world's most celebrated sporting venues.
Held across two days, the Melbourne Marathon Festival offers events for every age and ability. Participants can choose from the full marathon, half marathon, 10km, 5km, 3km and family-friendly events, making it an inclusive weekend that celebrates movement, achievement and community.
With a vibrant race atmosphere, thousands of supporters lining the course, and millions of dollars raised for charity over the years, the Melbourne Marathon Festival continues to be one of the highlights of Australia's running calendar and a bucket list event for runners from around the world.
